We’ve recently finished a new promo video for our short story Horror at Eyrgidean Pass. We’ll be posting this on Amazon.com where the kindle version of the story is available for purchase. The video, as you can see to the right, is already posted to YouTube and to my Facebook Author page. So please view and like.
I really like what we were able to achieve with the animation of the scrolling parchment and fire. It really gives the video a dynamic flair and makes for a good transition from the graphic elements back to the live action elements.
Another notable piece in the video is the clip with the bowl of fire. we were going for a temple of evil look there to reflect the temple in the story and I think we achieved that. The “temple” in the shot is actually the exterior of a burial vault in Woodlawn Cemetary in Lima, Ohio. The vault is constructed of bright white marble and the bowl adorning the steps was iron, I think. To achieve the temple look required a detailed mask around the bowl as it moved through the shot in order to cast the orange color and a faded flame texture on the back wall to give the appearance of the fire illuminating the temple. Then we added the flame to the bowl itself, tracking it with the bowl’s movement. Finally, we added the smoke effect.
Those of you familiar with our film works will recognize a cameo from Buddy, the monster from In The Dark. We like to keep extra footage from projects on hand, because you never know when it will come in handy for another project. Just because a certain take or shot isn’t right for the project it was shot for doesn’t mean it won’t be perfect for something else. Repurposing footage cuts costs and that’s a savings we can pass on to our customers on commercial projects.
Ok, enjoy the video and let us know what you think of it.
